Early research indicated that his wife Amy contested it, and the three minor children, Matilda, Nancy and Eliza were considered orphans. Ebenezer Petty became the guardian for Nancy; Samuel Briggs was guardian of Matilda; and Thomas K. Gordon was guardian for Eliza. However, research by Wendy Joyce Cabler, <[email protected]>, who found that Amy was the wife of Jesse Evans (her third husband, in fact). It was Jesse Evans whose will did not leave anything to Amy or her daughters, as they were not his children. Since he had paid her a dowry at their wedding (a mare), and it was the same mare listed in his will to be executed at his death, even though it was promised to Amy as her dower. That was what she was protesting.
I think he is John Temple who married Jane Russell. However, the will clearly has him dying 12 years before the death of that John Temple, based on the date in Temple People, Vol. II. If they are the same people, then it is possible that the three girls were the daughters of Jane Russell.

Spouse: Amy EVANS-129783.
