Throughout Sep 1863 to Mar 1865, the unit was heavily involved in battles throughout Virginia. He was commissioned as a First Lieutenant, but did not serve in that rank.<p>He enrolled 29 Aug 1861 at New York City to serve three years. He mustered in as a Sergeant in Company K on 30 Aug 1861. He was transferred to Company E on 1 Jan 1862. As a result, he was part of the unit when it was at the battle of Manassas in Mar 1862. He was promoted to Sergeant Major 18 Jan 1863, and mustered in as a Second Lieutenant in Company A on 3 Sep 1863. He was captured in action in Sep 1863 at Liberty Mills, VA. He was paroled 1 Mar 1865 at N.E. Ferry, North Carolina, and mustered out 19 Mar 1865. In 1850, only three Henrys were from NY with a birth year within 2 of 1841. Although his military dates are similar, he does not appear to be Henry Remington Temple, son of Jothan and Mary (Remington) Temple of MA and NY. It is possible he was David Henry Temple, b 1839 NY, thought David Henry was not known to have served. The third Henry, son of Isaac and Nancy Temple, was known to have served, but only in 1864-1865, and his service was not the same as any portion of this Henry's.
