He died several days later in Lake City. He was buried in Duplain Cemetery, Clinton Co., MI.<p>Apparently, the shooting had to do with George trying to collect payment for work he had done. John H. (Jack) Farrell, bartender of the tavern at Stittsville, was arrested for the shooting, which took place in his tavern.<p>Rae Willoughby Ford, supplied a condensation of the newspaper articles, as follows:<p>"June 2, 1903....... shot with a revolver. John H. Farrell, ( aka Jack ), the bartender was arrested. The charge, assault with intent to do great bodily harm<br>less than murder.<p>"June 9, 1903.....pronounced dead. Inquest was held, John Farrell bound to circuit court on charge of murder.<p>"June 17, 1903 trial set for fall term.<p>"August 5, 1903 People vs. John H. Farrell murder, was put over until Oct. term. Defendant allowed bail, $ 5, 000.<p>"Oct 7, 1903 one lawyer wanted an adjournment for a later date, because his mother had died. Judge denied, jury consideration began. Jury chosen, and quartered in the court house for the night. During the evening one of the jurors missed his footing on<br>a step and fell injuring himself. The doctor who assisted the injured juror, also happened to be the same Doctor who pronounced George dead, and was<br>there to testify at the trial. This complicated matters for interaction between a juror and witness. Case postponed, until Nov. 2, 1903<p>"Nov. 2, 1903 new jury selected.<p>"Nov 3, 4, 5, 6, 1903 testimony heard and cross-examination<p>"Nov. 7, 1903 ( Saturday ) 11 jury left court room, returned, 2:30, Verdict of guilty of manslaughter.<p>"Nov. 9, 1903, John H. Farrell was taken by sheriff Beuthien to Jackson State Prison, to begin sentence of not less of 7 1/2 years or more than 15 years." While the son of Wesley is most consistent with the census and other information, there is a chance that their data should be the other way around. What appears here is a synthesis of the birthday and the 1870 birth year. That date does not allow for his being the father of Lillian and George (#2). Some sources, such as his Masonic Lodge, give 22 Dec 1899, but also give his middle initial as C. Based on Masonic Lodge records, where he is given as George C. Temple, there seems some sort of confusion. A grave marker in Mt. Carmel, MS, gives a death date that is not correct for George Temple, who could not have died in 1893. George C. Temple, however, died in Dec 1899.
