Dr. Moore attended him and now he is doing well." About 1877 he was a traveling agent setting up windmills for Althouse, Wheeler and Company in WI.<sup></sup> Daniel gone to parts unknown in October 1879 in Waupun, Fond du Lac, WI.<sup><a href="sources.htm#5295" class="lnk">5295</a></sup> Evidence points tot he following article, provided by Diana Lindberg, as being Charles Dewitt, and may explain why he has been so hard to trace:<p>"The Waupun Leader - Friday, October 3, 1879<p>"ABSCONDED.<p>"Chas. Temple, an employee of Althouse, Wheeler & Co., left his team and wagon at Oshkosh, about a week ago, and left for parts unknown to his employers. He carried away about $50 of the company's money, and leaves a wife and several children in destitute circumstances." He applicant for a Veteran's Pension on 12 November 1897 in PA.<sup><a href="sources.htm#89718" class="lnk">89718</a></sup> On the basis of invalidity, he filed Application 1200983, Certificate 960428. He was a carpenter.<sup><a href="sources.htm#1998" class="lnk">1998</a></sup> Had two sons, unnamed in Some Temple Pedigrees, but this is likely an error, since he had two daughters.<p>Diana Lindberg's research proved Charles DeWitt Temple was actually Daniel W. Temple. His daughters claimed both names. He abandoned Addie Hall in 1874 and fled to Wisconsin, where he appeared in the 1875 state census. In Wisconsin, he met and married Lurah. However, he abandoned Lurah, as he does not appear with her in the 1880 census. She said she was married before 1880. He may have fled again when he heard there was an estate in Pennsylvania. There is also a court case after his father died, where the executor is suing him. This is right after he deserted his Wisconsin family.
