He may have had a third wife, also named Sarah.  Temple/McNulty, which is usually authoritative, gave a death date for Sarah Andrix in 1877. However, since Colwell appears with a healthy wife named Sarah in the 1880 census, either the death date is wrong, the death date is for a different Sarah Temple, or he had a third wife.  The evidence for the third wife is strengthened by the 1900 census, which reported that his wife in that census had 11 children - which is less than are reported here.  Therefore, some of the children shown belong to another wife. The problem is not resolvable by the different marriage dates shown in 1880 versus 1900.  While the marriage date reported in 1900 was 1870, that does not give a demarcation where his wife in 1900 would have had the last 11 children.<p>The enumerator in 1900 had a terrible time getting the information on this family, and the data that exists is both incomplete, sloppily written and overwritten.  The enumerator actually complained on the census form that he could not find anything about the family.  His parents were from OH (father) and Unknown in 1900.  Enumerated as Calvin in 1900.
