Rise of the Temples gives his father as Nicanor, and assigns him two wives: Charlotte Vincent and Candace Pomeroy. Levi Temple's Some Temple Pedigrees agrees that Chancy had two wives, but gives his father as Nahum. The Pomeroy genealogy gives Candace's husband as Chancy, son of Nahum and Dolly (Saunders) Temple. Rise of the Temples gives no further info on Chancy bar Nahum. Part of the problem must be in the brother relationship of Nicanor and Nahum, both sons of Richard and Rebecca (Rice) Temple.<p>I have chosen to go with the genealogy as presented in the Pomeroy Genealogy because it presents what is apparently the better quality of information, but this remains to be proved. Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Yreka, CA, plot SW 49, 3, 3. A Chauncy Smith Temple died in Siskiyou Co., CA on 24 Jan 1956, but his obituary listed his mother's maiden name as Compton. His birth date was also 23 Sep 1870 in IL, so the confusion requires some resolution.<p>His death certificate identifies his mother's name as Crompton. This possibly indicates that Chauncy, the son of Charles Amos and Melissa Woods Temple is confused with another of the same name. That also means that Chauncy the son of Charles Amos was probably not born this date in IL.
