His rating was changed to F2C and then F1C on 1 Dec 1941, and he was transferred to the USS Chester on 18 Dec 1941.  Received 1 Jan 1942 for permanent duty on the Chester.  On 28 Feb 1942 he was reported as part of a contingent in port with power boats at Pearl Harbor to report to Combasefor.  Effective 1 Dec 1942 changed rating to MM2C.  Changed rating to MM1C 1 Aug 1943.  Transferred to Receiving Station, San Francisco 24 Sep 1943.  Received aboard the USS Oglala (ARG1) 7 Oct 1943. He was wounded in World War II, was a Pearl Harbor survivor, and in all, survived the sinking of four ships.
