He moved on 3 April 1835 in Warsaw Twp., Jefferson, PA.86766 Charles Eckels Temple related to Dorothy Belle Hetrick the following about his journey to Warsaw County, PA:
On the night of April 2, we encamped on the Galbraith farm, two miles south of Brookville. The country was unbroken wilderness, and in the evening of that day we called at a log cabin by the road side to get some fire, which we carried, alternately, a distance of eight or ten miles. There were at that time no matches in use. And no houses. Our camping seemed inevitable. Late in the night a site was selected for a night's sojourn near a brook where the road now crosses the aforementioned farm.
A fire was made on the ground, the horses tied to trees, and after our evening meal, we laid down to rest, some on the ground and some in the wagon. The night passed away, and much refreshed the next morning we resumed our journey. On reaching Brookville we were somewhat delayed.
Red Bank creek was at rafting stage, and there were no bridges. We detached the horses and mounted them to seek a fording place. After numerous crossings and consultations with the citizens, the point below the present Baptist church was selected as the only place at all practicable. All the family were carried over on horse back. This required considerable time and involved great risk. When all were landed, and goods and wagons were safely over, our fears were allayed, and we were ready to move forward to our future home.
Having no house to move into on reaching our destination, we took lodging with a friend, Milton Gibbs, a bachelor who had recent come from Armstrong County, and settled adjoining our father's purchase. His small cabin was filled to overflowing until an opening could be made and a temporary shelter put up.
It being Saturday night when we reached our journey's end, the Sabbath was spent in much needed rest.
The entire week had been spent in the journey of one hundred and ten miles. Early Monday morning work was commenced, and on Friday the Dixons, the Vasfinders and others came from six to ten miles distance to help us raise our log cabin home. We moved our effects in on Saturday. We then began preparations for crops. Clearing and planting. By the first of June we had six acres of corn and potatoes planted.
