He departed France aboard the USS President Gran on 24 Apr 1919, and arrived at New York on 6 May 1919, where he was sent to Camp Mills for processing. Camp Mills was a US Army Training and Embarkation Camp first established in 1917 near Garden City, Nassau, NY. Abandoned as an active post in 1920, it was later absorbed into Mitchel Field.<p>He was gassed in the Argonne forest campaign. His service number was 1764348. I suspect that possibly Carl was a boarder, and the enumerator just got carried away listing him as a son, because I am fairly sure he is the son of Seth Dewitt Temple. However, his birth records indicate his middle initial was E, so the Carl E. Temple b 30 Jun 1888 may not be the son of Seth Dewitt Temple, but given how small Phoenix Mills was, this latter possibility seems remote.
