This is not so, I think. They are enumerated close to each other in the 1850 census (on the same page, neighboring farm plots, with Robert Massengill intervening. But Burwell is clearly the son of Amey Temple ae 50. He also has a younger brother, Isham age 5.
I think Starling W. had a son Burwell, but he had to have been born before 1835 - too long a gap from his last child to Burwell b 1835. It is either this, or Amey/Naomi lied about her age significantly. Then there is the problem of who Isham was the son of. If Amey was indeed Naomi, she was actually in her 60s in the 1850 census, and would hardly have had a 5 year old son.
Also, the military records on Burwell in the Civil War may actually indicate two different people. One of them was in the military for NC, the other for VA. They also had very different military careers, apparently. Parents: Starling W.
