Enrolled 9 Sep 1794 for three months, and discharged on 25 Dec 1794, having served in the Pennsylvania Insurrection of 1794.  He purchaser and proprietor of the Red Lion Inn on 23 March 1819 in Penns Neck, Mercer, NJ.<sup><a href="sources.htm#83235" class="lnk">83235</a></sup>  He bought the inn for $ 4,000 from William Kovenhoven.  Reports are that he was much less amiable than the previous landlord, John Joline, who left the inn in 1810.  NJ records cite eight town meetings held in the "hotel of Asher tempe," between 1827 and 1835.  A history of the taverns and inns explains what happened next, "Temple's sponsorship of horse racing and betting brought him into disfavor with the township fathers."  The town meetings were subsequently held at a tavern at Dutch Neck.  The inn was still structurally intact and survived to 1997.
