His discharge certificate was destroyed when his house burned.<p>Discharged January 1784 at Dobb's Ferry on the Hudson River.<p>He was the only Archelaus Temple to fight in the war.<p>In his pension application, he gave the following sworn statement:<p>"On this twentieth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred ad eighteen before me, ...personally appears Archelaus Temple aged fifty four years residing in said Bradford County Districts foresaid. Who being by me duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provisions made by the late act of Congress...That he the said Archelaus Temple enlisted at the town of Keene in the County of Cheshire and State of New Hampshire in the month of April in the year one thousand seven hundred and eighty two in the company commanded by Captain Benjamin Ellis, first Regiment of New Hampshire troops commanded by Col. Henry Dearborn for the term of three years. That he continued in service until the month of January in the year one thousand seven hundred and eighty four making the term of time actually served about one year and nine months. That he then received his discharge at a place called Dobbs' Ferry on the Hudson River at which time he belonged to the same company and regiment as above mentioned, but that his Captain had left the service and returned home previous to his discharge. And that at the time of his discharge the squadron to which he belonged was under the command of a Sergeant Hall, but yet of the same regiment and line. Also during the term of his service he was in a battle or skirmish with the Indians at a place on the river Mohawk which he thinks was called Schuyler's Mills; but of the name he does not recollect certain. And that he was also at a skirmish with the Indian refugees at Fort George, upon Lake George. And he further declares that his discharge which was given him at Dobbs' Ferry was about five years ago destroyed by fire together with his house and many of his effects. Which discharge, if it had not been lost or destroyed, would as he verily believes, have shown the material facts above stated. He further declares that he is in very reduced circumstances, and stands in great need of the assistance from his country for support. That he has nothing from which to support himself and family but his labor and that he is subject to turns of illness that render him wholly unable to labor for the time. And that he has no other witnesses of his services now in his power."
