With Ernst as a witness to his marriage, this might be a clue as to which family he belonged in.<p>The 1920 census says August Tempel was the uncle of Lawrence Tempel, which might indicate Christopher Tempel was the brother of Herman Tempel.<p>The 1880 census information is insufficient for me to tell whether Chris is the sibling or the nephew of Caroline.  If the sibling, he is a likely parent of Caroline Temple, who was enumerated with Caroling and Frederick Koop in 1880.  I think he was a nephew, however, because enumerated with him was an Annie Temple, who was listed his cousin. Since she was age 5 - it seems more likely he was the next generation down from Caroline.
