It seems a correct count was 7 children, of whom 6 survived.<p>Her son Carl, in his marriage to Sarah Wittislager, said his mother's maiden name was Ida Ellwood. When Carl married Minerva Fraker, he said her maiden name was Wellwood. Some secondary sources pointed to her maiden name as McFarland, and her marriage certificate gives that as her maiden name. So, given her age at marriage, which, depending on the source, makes her either 14 or 16, she had not time to be married before her marriage to Hiram Temple. Since Hiram and Ida seem to appear in the same censuses up to just short of her death in 1940, her maiden name - the name she claimed and the name her mother Lucy McFarland claimed - had nothing to do with Wellwood or Ellwood. However, she was not found in 1880 as Ida McFarland.<br>As a final thought - it may be that her mother really was Lucy McFarland as she claimed when she gave consent for Ida to marry despite being a minor, but that Lucy was not married, and the father of Ida was either an Ellwood or Wellwood.
