Family lore says that George W. and Jesse spent some time in an orphanage, which is consistent with what might have happened had Jesse had to work outside the house when his wife died.  The gaps in the known dates of birth also indicated that his first wife might have died some time before 1823, or perhaps even in 1823 if she died in childbirth with Alexander.  All of this requires proof, of course.<p>In the Aug 1850 census of Springfield, OH, in which Jesse Temple was a brickmaker, living with him was a Mary Fletcher (surname looks like an erasure was attempted), ae 51, b PA.  Enumerated with them was a George Fletcher, ae 19, also a brick maker, b England.
