She apparently was enumerated as Nancy in 1870, but if that is correct, then there is a discrepancy with her birth date in her marriage papers. It may be that the 1868 date is for Thomas' marriage to Nancy, and that Ellen married after 1870 but before 1872. Probably of more significance was that he gave her age as 37. The marriage papers noted that he was to give her current age or, if deceased, her age at death. The age of 32 was neither. So - it is not clear what the source of confusion was, but the marriage records must be wrong.
