His works are in collections world-wide. Now he turns his eye to a finger-snapping portrait of the root of New Orleans rhythm and blues: The legendary Henry Roeland Byrd, better known as Professor Longhair, or 'Fess.
'Fess influenced every New Orleans R&B piano player of note (Fats Domino, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, etc.) and many from other spheres (listen to the E-Street Band's Roy Bittan on "TVC15" on David Bowie's "Station To Station" album). Dureau's brush reveals the second-line soul of a musical icon too incompletely appreciated in his lifetime. 'Fess played the early Festivals until his death in 1980 and is the only musician to have Festival stage named for him. He won a posthumous Grammy in 1987 as Best Traditional Blues Artist for recordings produced in 1972 by Festival Producer Quint Davis. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
The unsigned collectible is printed on archival vellum paper. The Artist Signed and Remarque editions are on museum standard 100% cotton rag paper. If history is any guide, all editions will sell out before the Festival is over. An extraordinary "remarque" edition of 750 prints bears a unique drawing by Dureau in its oversized lower margin plus the estate stamped signature of Byrd. It is a significant work and a unique opportunity to acquire an original Dureau at an unheard of price. Only one remarque per household, please. All prints are subject to prior sale.

You can purchase the 1999 poster via the internet at:
www.art4now.com

or by calling:
1-888-ART4NOW
