What a joy it was to walk away from the constant bigotry, corruption, lies,
and deceit of the past 25 months for the past week and truly rejoice in
the blessed events symbolic of the birth of Jesus Christ. My daughter, Stephanie,
returned from Amsterdam and my son, David came from San Diego to join in
the celebration. Both of them read the updates routinely and cannot believe
those with whom we had such a warm relationship have become so evil. I continue
to reinforce with them the importance of always being truthful – regardless
of the circumstances. I have always led by example and continue to be as
proud as a parent can be with the goodness within Stephanie and David’s
hearts.

Although they have read the complaints filed against me by person(s) that
shall remain nameless at this time, Stephanie and David still are having
problems understanding the rationale for the actions. “Dad, if there
was something that bothered them, why would they not discuss their concerns
with you? Why would they go to the State Board with their complaints without
giving you the opportunity to clarify and answer their concerns? Where was
the Attorney representing the funeral home? Why didn’t he make sure
of the facts before allowing them to take the action they did?”

It was very difficult to explain to young educated adults why supposedly
adults and parents of young children, children who will soon be adults,
could take decisive action without regard for the truth; let alone the pain
and hurt they have unjustly brought onto others. I indicated to them that
the Good Lord has given us a tolerance for pain, and that we can deal with
it as our belief and strength in God is stronger than any pain thrust upon
us.

What I could not adequately address and resolve for them (probably because
I have yet to get past it myself) is the “hurt” we all have
and are experiencing. Our lives, (mine, Carolyn’s, Stephanie’s
& David’s) have been dedicated to helping others in their time
of need. From Stephanie’s commitment to the “Love in Action”
Program at Notre Dame Academy in Worcester; to the dozens of times we identified
two or more individuals without family in nursing homes and brought them
to our home for Thanksgiving and Christmas (wheelchairs and all); to the
times when we identified soldiers at the Soldier Systems Center (formerly
Natick Labs) not able to be home for the holidays and had them grace our
home for Thanksgiving and Christmas; to the decision we made as a family
many years ago that we would not exchange gifts each Christmas, but identify
a family in need or the family of a deceased veteran and provide them gifts
or monies directed to a specific need they had. Our family’s joy was
and is in the happiness we share with others. As we reflected on these wonderful
times, you could see in the faces of Stephanie & David the hurt they
continued to feel – “hurt” that is couched
in their disappointment with those they considered family.

The last thing I would want is for Stephanie and David to give up on what
we have instilled in them at a very young age, that being –
“always look for the goodness in people, and you will find it.”
That principle is severely shaken by the actions of a few in the past 25
months, but as I have always told them and that which I firmly believe –
“The Truth Will Set You Free!” now and in the
future.

David, who has one of the most inquisitive minds I have ever encountered,
and after watching Barbara Walter’s Special on “HEAVEN –
Where is it & How do we get there?” asked me what I thought has
happened to Mr. Kazlauskas, now that he has passed on? “Do you think
he is in heaven? Isn’t it a shame, as a result of his statements and
actions, his name is now being drawn through the mud even after he has died?”
Certainly, challenging questions!

After much hesitation, I responded:

“David, we are only passing through and our time on this earth is
relatively short. When we leave this life, we leave only with a name and
reputation. If we haven’t repented our sins and made right that which
we have made or done wrong before our passing, the bonds we have placed
on ourselves will most certainly be a weight that will restrain our assent
into heaven. During the wake in the Orthodox Church, in front or in the
casket is the Icon of the Resurrection with the words and painting of the
“Decent into Hades” with Christ grasping the hands of the deceased
and pulling the deceased from the grasp of the evil one to heaven. As for
Mr. Kazlauskas, I do not know if he took the time or made the effort to
make peace with the Good Lord as a result of his actions in the past; but
if not, I suspect he is keeping warm shining the shoes of the devil and
reserving space for those who now follow in his footsteps.”

As for Mr. Kazlauskas’s name and reputation, the State Board, in
the person(s) of Ms. Cartmell-Siricco, Mr. Mazur, Mr. Barile, and Ms. McCarthy,
and especially Mr. Bresnahan, the State Board investigator, failed to seize
the opportunity to end this regrettable chapter in their lives and that
of Mr. Kazlauskas by pursuing accusations, allegations, and “Yes,
blatant lies”, in order to make a statement – an unjust, biased,
prejudiced, and false statement of fact that soon will haunt their names
and reputations as it now does in the case of Mr. Kazlauskas.”

To my children (now grown up), to each of you who have been in routine
communication with me and for your support, to each interested party in
or about funeral service throughout the Commonwealth and throughout the
country, and most especially to my wife, Carolyn, I offer my heartfelt apologies
for what you have been put through in the past 25 months. The end is in
sight!

To those who have made the vicious allegations and accusations, to those
who believed the lies to be factual and prayed the allegations and accusations
were true; I will feel your disappointment for the “Truth Will Soon
Set Us All Free” – as we release the results of our investigation
early in 2006. There still is time to right your wrongs; but time is getting
short.

And lastly, to the many families that had pre-arranged their funeral wishes
and those of their loved ones with me, and who have honored my request not
to transfer their arrangements to another funeral home until the issues
before us were justly addressed, I honor you for having honored me and my
request to you.

“Happy New Year, for 2006 is The Year of Reckoning!”

Next update and the initial release of the findings of our investigation
will be on Friday, January 6, 2006.
