That's one of the "givens" with illustration art.<p></p> The range is typical of our sales, but the selection this autumn is especially strong in fantasy illustration, with works by Willy Pogany, and Robert Lawson, from William Timlin's "Fairy City" to Earl Norem's "Conan." (Start near the end of the auction and scan backward)<p></p>There is also a good deal of "Apple Pie" illustration - nostalgic images of the American good life. Overall, there are many museum-quality works; check out the Victor Anderson, Peter Helck, C. D. Gibson, Gustaf Tenggren, Jeff Jones, Bob Peak, Haddon Sundblom, Frank Hoffman, and Herbert Paus, just to name a few. The quality of this offering is very high, but this auction also promises bargains. With the fears of a weak season gripping the art market, we have been working with consignors to lower reserves.<p></p>You will see supplementary material on our site that is not printed in the catalogue, such as extra photos, sometimes of the printed pages these works appeared on.
