FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

It's a Man's World, Illustration Art by and for Men

The illustrated gallery of Philadelphia is packing up and transporting to New York City over 100 original paintings from the Golden Age of illustration circa 1890 - 1970 for its first Trunk Show and Sale. The collection is a retrospective on the American male persona of the times as defined and influenced by commercial interests, the medium of print, and the illustration artists. Also appearing are guest speakers sharing on how an artist's perspective had far reaching global effects on the image of the American male and America itself. November 14, 15, 16, 5pm - 9pm and 1pm - 5pm Saturday Nov. 17 at Illustration House, 110 W. 25th St., New York, NY.

Starting with men as boys the exhibit moves through various societal male right of passages and perceptions of the day. The 4-day event is inclusive of all men; whether a single sophisticated urbanite or a dedicated 'Rockwellian' family man, and showcases a collection of impressive paintings with their story to tell, by artists; JC Leyendecker, Tom Lovell, Norman Rockwell, Joseph Kernan, Walter Humphrey, Leslie Thrasher, Maxfield Parrish, NC Wyeth, among others.

Wednesday, 7pm; Unveiling of previously missing NC Wyeth painting "The Christmas Ship in Old New York." Painted in 1929 this 4 foot 5 inch by 11 foot 4 inch oil, considered 'whereabouts unknown' for over 60 years, will be back to the location of its inspiration to be appreciated again. During the rest of the exhibit the painting will hang from the mezzanine of the salon.

Following the unveiling is guest speaker, fine art restorer, Andrew Bertolino of Bertolino Arts on the 'before and after aspects of fine art restoration.' Complete with before pictures and the after effect itself, Andrew relates his experience with the restoration of the Wyeth in particular, and with paintings in general.

Thursday, 7pm; Guest speaker, Dr. Don Stoltz, founder of the Norman Rockwell Museum at Curtis Publishing, Philadelphia, noted world wide lecturer, author, and human Rockwell expert, speaks on Norman Rockwell, his life, and Rockwell's choice of painting things 'as he wanted them to be' and its effect on home and global perspectives of the American male. The presentation includes a biographical sketch of Rockwell's life and power point show of many of his paintings.

Saturday, 2pm; Guest speaker, noted illustration art adept of Illustration House, Roger Reed speaks on, The Defining of the Classic American Male by Artist JC Leyendecker. Roger speaks about Leyendecker's life and artwork and how his cosmopolitan version of 'how he wanted them to be,' played out in the collective psyche.

The artwork itself is available for sale. the illustrated gallery, est. 1998, is dedicated to the collecting, restoring and recirculating this important genre of art and communication medium.
