Pettee was no "one-hit wonder" however, being skilled and imaginative, as this magazine cover attests; he illustrated numerous books in the 1910s as well as Scientific American and pulp magazines. The artist painted in a date of August 7, 1913; this was changed in the plate for publication. Motor Age still exists, making it one of the longer running magazines in history.
