Chicago is the "Railroad Capital"
of the world -- more freight cars pass through our town in a year than in any
other town on Earth. As the poet Carl Sandburg wrote, Chicago is 'A player with
railroads...the nation's freight handler...city of the big shoulders."

The 20th Century Railroad Club invites you to join us on a
visit to the Golden Age of railroading, a time when Americans traveled
everywhere by streetcars, electric interurbans and, of course, stem-powered
passenger trains.

Many examples of the trains of this era has been preserved
for all to enjoy at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, 70 miles northwest of
Chicago's Loop.

In those "good old days," Chicagoans rode to work
in "Green Hornets" and "Red Rockets." Suburbanites rode on
the interurban cars of the North Shore Line, South Shore Line, and the "Roarin'
Elgin," as well as on steam-powered commuter trains.

On Sunday afternoons, many families would board on one the
big interurban cars and ride to a "trolley park" at the end of the
line for a picnic and a pleasant day in the country, away from the noisy, dirty
and crowded city.

By riding the North Western Chief to the Illinois
Railway Museum, you and your family and friends can sample all of these modes of
rail travel. And you'll learn a great deal about railroading, Chicago style, at
this unique "Museum in Motion."

A visit to IRM is not only exciting, it's just plain fun!
You'll stand back in awe as a thundering steam locomotive whistles past on the
Museum's five-mile-long main line, or a gleaming, diesel-powered steamliner
rumbles by, or an electric interurban car whooshes almost silently along the
track. Watch as a vintage Chicago streetcar clangs across Depot Street on the
mile-long trolley loop. IRM's exhibits don't just sit there -- they move!
And they take you along for the ride!

So join us aboard the North Western Chief for a
140-mile round-trip to the Illinois Railway Museum in Union. There, you'll be
able to ride all of the various types of trains operating that day, as many
times as you like, and view all the exhibits.

The ticket price of $60 per person includes unlimited rides
and a boxed lunch at IRM, plus round-trip transportation between downtown
Chicago (North Western Terminal), Oak Park or Elmhurst aboard a commuter
streamliner charted from Metra.

Illinois Railway Museum...

Well over 300 pieces of historic railway
rolling stock of all types are displayed on IRM's 123-acre site in rural McHenry
County, 70 miles northwest of Chicago. Since its founding in 1953, the Museum's
mission has been to demonstrate the vital role railroads have played in the
growth of the Cchicago area.

IRM does this by preserving and operating railroad and
mass-transit rolling stock, and by displaying railroad artifacts in a
prototypical setting. These exhibits provide an interactive educational
experience for visitors of all ages.

About The Train...

You'll travel to IRM in an air-conditioned,
by-level commuter streamliner chartered from Metra. This six-car train has a
restroom in every car. Neither food nor beverages will be available on board.
You are welcome to bring your own.

The North Western Chief will use the Union Pacific
Railroad's main line to West Chicago, and then travel over the Belvedere branch
to Union. The track between West Chicago and Union has not had regular passenger
service since 1950.

The North Western Chief will stop only at the North
Western Terminal in downtown Chicago (now called the Ogilve Transportation
Center), Oak Park and Elmhurst. [This information is correct. The flyer mailed
to you was printed incorrectly]
