... the Big Tignish River empties into the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the northern coast of Prince Edward Island. In 1877, two fixed navigation beacons, on poles, were aligned for a safe passage into Tignish Harbour and Myrick's Wharf. That lasted about a year. Big Tignish Lighthouse, a 33 foot tall (35 feet with the round iron lantern room), tapered, square wooden tower was built and completed in 1881. Big Tignish Light remained an oil fired luminary until 1962 and then was electrified. The light was decommissioned in 1997 and moved to nearby Fisherman's Haven Park in 2008, on what is called Tignish Shore. This illustration is from my 2016 road trip... on the tail end of Hurricane Matthew.
