... the Comanchero were predominately traders of Hispanic heritage, based around a broad area comprising most of present day New Mexico and Oklahoma. They made a living through the bartered exchange of commodities and goods with the several indigenous Great Plains Tribes of Southwest, North America. They received the "Comanchero" label through their extensive associations with the Comanche people... a mutually beneficial relationship of commerce that lasted from approximately 1780 through 1875. This illustration of a Northern New Mexico transaction between the Kiowa and Comanchero was created for the National Park Service interpretive museum at Fort Larned, Kansas.
