... Santa Fe streamliners pulling passenger trains with names like "Super Chief", "El Capitan" or "El Tovar", became the popular image of American rail travel through the 1940's and 50's. Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (ATSF 39C) #347C... an A cab unit built in 1949... and #347B (ATSF 35A)... a B unit, are the only two EMD diesel electric type F7 locomotives that are original ATSF acquisitions, that were not converted into CF7 switchers and still exist in the Santa Fe Railway's red & silver, heritage warbonnet livery... first penned by GM designer Leland A. Knickerbocker in 1937. The pair were given to the California State Railroad Museum by Santa Fe in operating condition in 1986... however, currently... they are not certified for road use and are not on public display. And most unfortunately... the pair... wearing what is probably the most iconic and well known railroad paint scheme of all time... just ask the folks at Lionel... were conspicuous in their absence from the gathering of "Streamliners at Spencer" event of 2014. </p></TD>
