... May 30, 2014 from my pencil sketch, drawing on site, at the "Streamliners at Spencer" event held at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. Built at the Norfolk And Western's (NW) Roanoke Shops in 1950... the J Class #611, the twelveth of fourteen to enter service, is the only survivor of the type. This 109 foot long, streamlined, steam locomotive was moved from it's home at the Virginia Museum of Transportation on May 28, to the Norfolk Southern's (NS), Spencer Shops, for a full restoration to meet current Federal Railroad Administration safety guidelines and a return to steam. In this view, the 611's main connecting rod had been removed for transport. The 611 returned to Roanoke, Virginia, operating in good order, and under her own steam on May 30, 2015.
