... from drawing on site, the morning of May 29, 2014, at the "Streamliners at Spencer" event held over four days in the end of May, at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. This GM EMD FT #103 Streamlined Cab (A) Unit... and it's B Unit mate... is one pair of the first two demonstrator sets (running together as A-B-B-A) built by the General Motors, Electro Motive Division, in 1939, and is now owned by the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri. This is the locomotive that convinced most railroads that the end of steam powered locomotion was at hand. Each unit is powered by a 1,350 HP, General Motors, V-16 diesel engine, powering 1 megawatt electric generators, providing energy to the electric drive, traction motors located down in the wheel trucks. <BR>
