companies focus on the most obvious choice - that good worker who does his or

better with a team of people. But when that dream employee turns into a

Employers, Dont Pay That New COBRA Bill Just Yet</span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" align="left"><font face="Verdana">Under the COBRA
regulations, workers who are leaving their jobs and wish to continue
their health benefits can do so by paying both their share of the
insurance premium as well as the companys share-plus a 2% (two
percent) administration fee. That meant that the employee had to
pay 102% of the total premium. However, under the governments new
stimulus plan, employees who wish to continue their health benefits
must only pay 35% of the cost while the company must pay the
remaining 65%. The company will be reimbursed via a refund on their
current tax filing. </font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" align="left"><font face="Verdana">But a glitch
is showing up in the system. Companies are paying the 65% to the
insurance carriers <i>before</i> the employees are paying their
35%. Then when the company files for their refund, they are being
rejected because the ex-employee didnt pay their share. The
message is-dont pay until you know the ex-employee did.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" align="left"><font face="Verdana">Another
potential problem is emerging from the new COBRA stimulus plan.
Most employees are not taking advantage of this new opportunity.
But early reports indicate that employees with serious or chronic
health problems are signing up in greater numbers than before. With
the higher concentration of serious/chronic health problems, health
care costs are expected to increase dramatically. </font></p>
