In an earlier life, Newton and his partner, Gerry Friesen co-founded six
successful magazines � <b><i>Call Center, Computer Telephony, Imaging,
LAN</i> (</b>now <b><i>Network</i> Magazine), <i>Teleconnect</i> </b>and
<b><i>Telecom Gear</i></b>. They also co-founded the immensely successful
shows <b><i>Call Center Demo</i></b> and <b><i>Computer Telephony Conference
and Exposition,</i> </b>which, in its last year under their control, attracted
26,000 people. They also published over 40 books focusing on networking,
imaging, telecom and computer telephony. Friesen and Newton sold their
publishing company to Miller Freeman (now part of CMP) in September, 1997.</font></p>

wrote the best-selling <em><strong><font color="#008080">Newton�s Telecom
Dictionary -- The Official Dictionary of Telecommunications, Networking
and The Internet</font></strong></em>, now in its eighteenth edition, totalling
900 pages and published in February. 2002. Each edition is updated
to include the newest words and new explanations of old words. The dictionary
contains over 20,000 terms and has sold over 600,000 copies. Says Harry,
"I wrote this book for those of us new (and old) to the world's most
exciting industry. That's what it says on the back cover of the book. I
really wrote the book for myself. I wanted to keep up. Defining a term is
the best way I know of really understanding it. I'm not an engineer, I can't
write technical explanations. But I can write explanations businesspeople
will understand. This seems to work. My book is now the biggest-selling
telecom, networking and Internet dictionary in the world. Some of my definitions
are short. Some are long. Many are mini-tutorials. My definitions of a term
explain how it's used, its benefits, its pluses and its minuses. Many companies
give my dictionary to all their new people. Salespeople put my definitions
into customer proposals. Management uses it to feign understanding of technical
issues. Lawyers use it in court. God help us all.<br>
