        1901-1984</span><br>
      <br>As Victor Prouv&eacute's son he did his blacksmithing apprenticeship by age sixteen. 
<br>
        In 1924, he establishes his first shop in Nancy that he moves to Max�ville 
        in 1947 where it will become a large metal construction factory. Jean 
        Prouv&eacute dedicates himself to the production in series of models of his 
        designs that are fabricated exclusively by his workshop. Important commissions 
        are for towns, schools, hospitals, industrial buildings and housing blocks. 
        He also designs sideboards, desks and the first link binders. Steph Simon 
        of Paris is his exclusive dealer. <br>
        <br>His main works are the "Principe a�ronautique" table with centrally-based metal legs (1924), "Cit&eacute universitaire" armchair, the standard chair d�montable, "Visiteur" armchair with metal tubing base (1941), "Visiteur Kangourou", "Antony" lounge chair; with Charlotte Perriand he makes two bookcases: Maison du Mexique and Maison de la Tunisie in Antony.
In 1930 Jean Prouv&eacute helps found the Union des Artistes Modernes and shows his furniture there for the first time.
In 1935, outfits and furnishes the offices of the Compagnie parisienne de Distribution d'El&eacutectricit&eacute and the Nancy Cit&eacute Universitaire.
In 1953, he leaves his responsabilities at the Max�ville factory and establishes his office in Paris.
In 1971, he heads the Pompidou Centre's International Competition Jury.  Exhibitions on his work are organized at the Bordeaux Mus&eacutee des Arts D&eacutecoratifs in 1989, and at the Pompidou Center in 1990.
