Samantha's sister, Dorcas Julian Jarvis, married Marcus Monroe Mathis (all of Roaring River, Wilkes Co, NC). They traveled West where they had a son, James. A. Mathis, born Feb 1891 in South Dakota. Dorcas died and Marcus returned to Roaring River, NC and convinced Samantha E. Jarvis (Julian's sister) to marry him and they returned to the West, eventually settling in Sheridan, WY. Samantha died in Sheridan in 1920.) <P> I've been trying to trace James A. Mathis or as he was called - "Little Jimmie" and "Precious Pet" who supposedly ran off as a teen because his father was mean. My grandmother, Minnie Victoria Mathis, was born in Salt Lake City in 1898 (died in Oakdale, CA in 1954/55). In the 1900 US Census, Utah, Jas.
