1819 Mar 1- Wilkes Co., NC:  State of North Carolina Wilkes County Superior Court of Law March Term 1819 - The Justices for the State upon their oath present that on the first day of March 1819 there was a state warrant issued by John Sinclair & John Finley two of the acting Justices of the Peace for the County of Wilkes against one WILLIAM STANLY of the same County charging him with having begotten a Bastard Child in the county of Wilkes upon the body of ELIZABETH HAYS, single woman which said warrant, was directed to any Lawful officer to execute and return agreeable to Law which said warrant afteward on the same day and year aforesaid and in the County aforesaid Came into the hands of ENOS ANDERSON, who was then and there an acting Constable, in and for the county aforesaid, wihich said warrant Commanded the said Enos Anderson Constable to arrest the body of the said WILLIAM STANLY and in his custody Safety to keep the said WILLIAM STANLY and to bring him the said WILLIAM before some Justices of said County to be delt with in that Ease as the Law may direct and that the said Enos Anderson afterwards to wit:
 on the same day and year aforesaid in the County aforesaid by virtue and in person swear of the warrant aforesaid and arrest and take into his custody, as Constable the Body of the Said WILLIAM STANLY and that he the said Enos Anderson, not regarding his dulty as Constable aforesad, to wit, on the same day and year aforesaid in the County aforesaid, he the said WILLIAM STANLY voluntarily did suffer to escape go at large wheresoever he would contrary to the Statute in that Case made and provided & against the Peace and Dignity of the State.<P>

Is the following Jim/James Hayes the father of Henry Hayes?<P>

Jim/James Hayes was living on Adams Creeks, Wilkes Co., NC by 1779.  He owned and paid taxes on 100 acres.  In 1781 he married Susannah Hopper, probably the daughter of Thomas Hopper, who had settled on Hopper Branch in 1778.<P>

The 1782 Taxable List (Judd's District) for Wilkes Co., names James Haise and Jesse Haise.  Thomas Hopper and Thomas Hopper, Jr. (who is unmarried) are listed in the same district.<P>

The 1784 Taxable List (Judd's District) for Wilkes Co., names only James Hays, 50 acres.  Thomas Hopper is still living in same district.<P>

The 1785 Taxable List (Judd's District) for Wilkes Co., names only James Hays, 100 acres. John Hoper is in the same district.<P>

The 1786 Taxable List (Judd's District) for Wilkes Co., names only James Hays, 100 acres.  Thomas Hopper is still living in same district.<P>

The 1787 NC State Census of Wilkes Co., NC, Judd's District names James Hayes: 1 2 2 0 0.  In adddition to Thomas and John Hopper, there is also listed a George and Joseph Hoper.<P>

The 1790 Federal Census (Judd's Districts) names James Hayes 1 2 3 0 and Robert Hayes 2 0 3 0.<P>

On Nov. 7, 1793, James Hayes posted a $100 bastardy bond.  He was charged with begetting a bastard child on Ann Hopper.  Nathaniel Judd was bondsman.<P>

The 1795 Taxable (Judd's District), Wilkes Co., NC inclues a James Hayes, 150 acres.<P>

The 1797 Taxable (Judd's District), Wilkes Co., NC names James Hays, 421 acres.<P>
