George Wheatley was married first to Sarah Williams in about 1753 in Fauquier Co., VA. They had three children. George married his second wife, Diana Darnell about 1760. George and Diana had four children.

In 1779 he was granted 305 acres on Roaring River and in 1785 he is named on an Administrative Claim for the estate of Prichard Alexander. In March of 1785, "Sister Whitley" joined the <a href="roaring.html">Roaring River Baptist Church</a>. By 1787 George Wheatley's name appears on the <a href="<a href="http://www.ls.net/~newriver/nc/wilk1787.htm">1787 Wilkes County Tax List</a> for 973 acres and 2 polls. In 1788 he and Diana are witnesses to Jefferey Johnson's Will. George was the son of George and Mary Wheatly of Fauquier County.<P>

George Wheatly's family made their home on a tract of land between the South Fork of Roaring River and the ridge on top Blue Ridge Mountain at Reddies Creek. In 1788 George Wheatley Sr. gave Power of Attorney to George Wheatley to recover money from Thomas Withers and Augustine Jennings. This document was delivered to James Wheatley in October, 1788.
