Updated April 8, 1999

In some of Daddy's notes I found a page with the following, "Hiram Olney b.
ca. 1806 came to Miss with parents, buried at Corinth". In another place,
"Hiram Olney Tennyson b. 1805-6 in NC or MD d. 1871, buried at Corinth, Ms.
Came to Tuscumbia, Alabama in 1824 (19 yrs old with parents). Came to
Tishomingo Co., Ms., in about 1837. First wife died about 1870, buried near
Iule, Ms. They had separated. They had several children. Second wife (common
law) Cherokee Indian, no children. He left will never probated. In it he
left all his lands to a third generation after him which excluded all his
present family. He was under duress at the time of making the will, and
probably more sick than anyone realized. The yankees, Carpetbaggers, and
tiffraff ravished all he knew or owned. About 1870, most of the family had
forsaken him except for one son or grandson who buried him in Corinth,
Miss.".

A further mote on that page on Hiram Olney Tennyson. "His father James
Franklin Tennyson b. ca. 1780 Richmond, Va. d. 1856, buried in Tishomingo
Ms. Came to Tuscumbia, Ala. 1824, then to Payden, Miss. Moved family from
Va. because of lawsuit with some part of family".

Still another note on James' father, "Henry Franklin Tennyson b. 1755
Richmond, Va. d. 1822 Baltimore, Md. Horse racer and gambler, dealer in
house furnishings and praphenalia.

Finally this note on Henry's father, "Hiram Olney Tennyson b. 1701, England
d. 1766 VA. Immigrated to America in 1745 landed in Chesapeake Bay at
Yorktown, settled in Richmond, Va. Served as purchasing agent for the Crown
of England. Traveled all of Europe. Wife was from Austrian background. He
fled England because of accounting records that showed possible
embezzlement".

On yet another page from Arlington Lee Jernigans book that was copied,
"Records in London, England, trace the linage of the Tennysons back to King
Edward III. Edward, king of England 1327. Had daughter who married a
Tennyson. Tennysons in England 208 years to Edward. Tennysons in England 527
years after Edward. This writer's mother was a Tennyson. His niece Ivena
[writing not plain, had to guess last letter of name] Davis now (1955)
residing in Daytona, Fla, has a round-top rose-wood table 4'2" in diameter
brot to Amer. by Hiram Olney Tennyson 1745".

Do you possibly have any leads or knowledge of these men or Ivana Davis?
I am working on the theory that my gggrandmother was Franky TENNISSON, who married Samuel JACKSON in Davidson County, TN, 02 Oct 1823. If I am correct, she was 13 years old, and at least part Cherokee, or married a Cherokee. She was b. NC 1810. If I am correct, this family lived in NC ca. 1824-1837, then lived in TN briefly, then went on to Gasconade County, MO before 1843. They had a 3000 acre farm and large frame house with three chimneys, in a time when most of their neighbors lived in cabins. I need to establish this couple as the ggrandparents I have been searching many years for. They would have had George W., b. NC 1824, James Andrew, b. NC1825, Hamilton, b. NC 1832, Morgan, b. TN 1837, Thomas T., b. MO 1843, Anna, Virginia, and Martha.
I'm working the family of James Abraham Tennisson and Mildred Permilia Coragan, who m. 1824 probably in Rowan Co. Their westward migration is traced through Warren county, TN to the border of Craighead and Greene counties in Arkansas. Because they straddled the line, genealogists working this branch must check BOTH counties! Children of this marriage include: James S., William W., Levi H., Lucinda, Pantha, Mary E. and Luvina. Other information locates Hiram F. Tennisson as a storekeeper in Greensboro, Craighead county. However, I do not have him listed in the children of James Abraham and need help in placing him and his line. Is he a brother to James A., or a son that I missed? I looked at your page searching for my gr grandmother, Cora Bell (or Bell Cora) Tennisson. I have found a record of her marriage to Charles O. Gilkey 19 dec 1889 in Oregon, however, cannot find any other links to her. I saw a Margaret Cora Bell Tennyson in your list and know that the Bell name attaches in the Tennyson line, somewhere. Have you heard of her??
