His father, George Plater II was one of the largest landowners in Maryland. George III graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1752 and entered the practice of law. He was a member of the convention to form a State Government, was a delegate to the Continental Congress, and was President of the Maryland convention that ratified the U.S. Constitution. In 1791, Mr. Plater was elected the sixth Governor of Maryland. His mother was Rebecca Addison Bowles, widow of <a href="http://www.sotterley.com/Bowles.htm">James Bowles</a>, builder of the Sotterley Plantation. Rebecca was the daughter of Col. Thomas Addison and Elizabeth Tasker. Col. Thomas Addison was the son of Tobias Addison of London. He died in Annapolis on February 10, 1792 just three months after being elected Governor.<P> George Plater III married first in 1762 Hannah Lee, daughter of Hon. Richard Lee of "Blein" Charles County, MD. Hannah died in September of 1763. He married 2) Elizabeth Rousby in 1764 when she was only 13 years of age, the only child of John Rousby III and Ann Fitzhugh. <P> <HR> Second Generation<P> Children of Gov.
