Moran was born March 15, 1884, Oswego, New York. His parents are not known. His mother (name unknown) left William (sometimes called Willie) and his younger brother Freddy at the Orphan Asylum in Oswego County, New York on Oct 26, 1892. In October of 1895 William ran away and returned to his mother's home but was returned to the orphanage on November 18, 1895. William was not counted among the children at the orphanage on April 1, 1896. By 1900 William had run away from the orphanage for the last time. He left his brother Freddy at the orphanage, something he always regretted. Nothing else is known about Freddy. In 1900 William is enumerated as a servant with the Timothy Kane family in Serbia Town, Oswego, New York. By 1910 William had married Bessie Odit and was living in Wilmut, Herkimer County, New York. Bessie was a daughter of Amos J. Odit and Susan Aretta Chase.<P> Because the 1890 census record no longer exists, we will probably never know who William's parents were. In later census records William identifies Ireland as the place of birth for both his mother and father. William was a woodsman, lumber jack, amatur wrestler, and eventually owned a cadillac dealership in Huntington Beach, California.
