NC. McKaughan family histories state that he eventually abandoned her and moved away, leaving her in North Carolina with her children. He reportedly remarried in Kentucky in 1818 and died in Texas in 1845. In 1850 Phebe McKaughan is 66, living in Forsyth County with John and Jane Weisner. In 1860 she is listed as 77, and is next to George McKaughan. The McKaughan material says she died in 1867 and is buried in Guilford County NC. <P> Several web pages on this family all seem to derive from the same original gedcom. Although the page we present here incorporates some details from one version of that file, for the Forsyth County family we have worked primarily from census, cemetery, and other public records.<P> Note that the family appears to hop around among several different counties in NC. They probably aren't quite as mobile as they would appear, but are simply living in the relatively small region where Forsyth, Randolph, Guilford and Davidson adjoin one another. Remember also that what is now Davidson county was part of Rowan prior to 1822, and Forsyth was formed from Stokes in 1849.<P> Alternative spellings found in early records, and in some present-day branches of the family, include McKoin and McCoin.<P> ---<P> Hugh McKaughan and Phebe Pope are believed to be the parents of the following:<P> George P.
