Henry Augustus Lemly (1812-1886) was a native of Rowan County NC, who had attended the University of North Carolina with the intention of pursuing a career in medicine. He gave this up because of weak eyesight, however, and became a merchant in Salisbury. In 1836 he married Amanda Conrad (1816-1910) and settled with her in what became Forsyth County.

Can anyone give us more information on his parents and the other Lemlys of Rowan County?

Ithiel Lemly lived in Patrick Co. VA and Montgomery and Ashe Counties, NC. At the time of his mother's death in 1910, he was listed as "of Ashe Co." Amanda Conrad Lemly's will (1910) refers to her granddaughter Amanda S. Gordon specifically and then mentions "children of Ithiel T. Lemly, my son" without naming them. Who were the others?

Henry Conrad Lemly (1874-1904) is living with Henry Augustus and Amanda Lemly in 1880, age 5, listed as their grandson. Was he Ithiel's son, living with his grandparents in that year because his mother had died? Or was he the son of one of the other Lemly children? He married Letitia Brown (1880-1931). They had one son, Conrad Brown Lemly (1902-1967), who is named in his grandmother Amanda Conrad Lemly's will.
