Thanks to my cousins Wendy Hiefield, Bill D. Holder, and Bob Moore for the 
following document.  We have all tried our hands at transcribing the handwritten 
original, and although we differ in a few minor points, we agree on most of it.  
The transcription presented here is my own interpretation.  

Tuesday March 2d 1784 in the Morning between 5 and 6 on a Clock took our Saviour 
home for Himself our Aged Brother John Holder, widower.  His age was 92 years 
less 19 days.  And his remains was Interred Thursday the 4th of March upon the 
Congregation Burring Ground under Br Francis B�hlers Liturgy.  To insert a in 
Short a little of his Memories which has Dicdated some years ago to his Youngest 
Daughter.  He was Born at London up on Towerhill in Mary Bow Parish and Baptiz'd 
in the High Church, by the Account he left his Father very early and Stad 
[stayed? ] with his mother till he came with her in the year 1707 over to N York 
into America, from here he follow'd afterwards at different Times the Sea as a 
Sailor 10 Years partly in a Man of War and partly in a Merchant Man and after 
that lived again with his Mother in the High Lands on Hudson River, till he 
[married - word obviously omitted] in March 1722 with Barbara Volck in which 
they have lived together 56 Years.  And in which State our Saviour Blessed them 
with 12 Children 6 Sons and 6 Daughters of which 5 are gone to our Savr before 
him, and 7 are yet alive and mostly all here [looks like "and" crossed out] in 
Pennsylvania and North Carolina incorporated into the Brethrens Congregation and 
of his yet living Sons and Daughters and has lived to see 49 Grant Children and 
12 Great Grant Children of both these different offsprings are gone a good many 
before him.
He joind himself to no short [sort?] of Religious Denomination till in the year 
1743 and 46 as the Brethren came to Lynn Town he was stirred up thro' the Grace 
of our Lord in his Heart thro' their Preaching the Pure and Simple Gospel of 
Jesus Suffring which laid an abiding hold on his Heart, which had such an Effect 
that he in the Year 1748 in Feb was received into the Congregation and the Same  
Year in May admitted to the Holy Supper of the Lord at Bethlm and he was a 
Member of the little Flock of Lynn Town till the Year 1769 he moved with his Son 
in Law Family our late B' John [must be John Everett, Maria's husband] here to 
Gnadenh�tten and was one with of the list? first? of the Members of the ____ 
Congregation here.  Since in the Year 1777 on the 21st of December that his dear 
wife went home he enjoy [strange choice of word, but I can't see what else it 
would be; I expect the sense is different from what we would say] the state of 
Widower, which ___ to have his old and long Companion taken from him went very 
near and it seemd he hath lost something his Still Compos'd and Steady [??] Path 
which was sometimes ___ with fretting of his long staying behind which made it 
to them which were alway with him very heavy [?].  But one could by reminding 
him of the fromer [former?] time of Grace very easy bring ___ and he wishd 
always that he soon may have the good look [luck?] to go home to him this his 
Ardent longing after he had Sicken'd this 6 Month and ___ most ___ and his heart 
was in very happily situation [?] to the Comfort and Joy of all who knew him was 
granted him by our Savior on the Day and Date above mentioned in a high Age and 
what more sound Reason [?] and sense he lost Breath.  He is now in Peace.
