Jarvis (1841-1862) (died in Civil War)<P> Memoir of Sr. Elizabeth Maria Jarvis -- Sr. Elizabeth Maria Jarvis, born Campbell, was born on 23 Jan 1803 in Stokes County.� She lived with her great-uncle, Horatio Hamilton for several years, during which time she was received into the Church.� In the year 1827 she attained the privilege of participating for the first time in Holy Communion. James Jarvis, Jr. and Elizabeth Maria Campbell were married Dec. 22 1831.<P> -----------<P> Children of James Monroe Jarvis, Jr. and Mary Ann Holland (m. Wright (1846-1887); <BR> 2) George Ferguson (abt. 1847-aft. 1910) <a href="anniem.html">1890 Marriage Announcement</a><P> "April 16, 1847 - In the afternoon there died in the home of her mother the widowed Sister Mary Ann Jarvis of the Hope congregation who after the death of her husband and because of her own dangerous sickness some weeks ago had come here to be cared for with her two little children. <a href="jarhol.html"> (A copy of her memoir)</a><P> On 22 Dec 1831, she entered the matrimonial state with the widowed James Jarvis.�This union was blessed with 7 sons and 1 daughter.� Of these, 5 sons preceded her into eternity.� She was a faithful soul and dearly loved the Saviour, whereby she made beneficial use of the means of grace.� And so when she occasionally was absent from meetings, we could with certainty conclude that illness or other unavoidable circumstances kept her away. <P> On 31 Dec 1842 she attended the meetings for the closing of the year.� Then on Wed., the 4th of this month [January 1843], she accompanied her husband to her deceased mother-in-law's house, where toward evening she became ill.� She soon was delivered of a little dead son.� Her illness swiftly advanced until the morning of Sat., the 7th, when she gently and blessedly passed into the arms of her Redeemer.� Her age was 39 years, 11 months, and 15 days.� (She was buried at Hope on Monday, 9 January 1843.)<P> John Jarvis, age 9, listed in the 1850 Forsyth County Census, as living with his aunt and uncle, David Zimmerman and <a href="campbell.html">Nancy Campbell</a> Zimmerman. In 1852 John C. Jarvis was bound out to John Vawter as an apprentice to learn wagon making. In the 1860 Forsyth County Census, John C. Jarvis, age 20, is living with John Vawter and <a href="campbell.html">Mary M. "Polly" Campbell</a>, another aunt and uncle. John enlisted on May 24, 1861 in Forsyth County and mustered into E Co., NC 21st Infantry. He was transferred on April 26th, 1862 to B Co., NC 1st Battalion SharpShooters and was killed on August 28th, 1862, 2nd Battle of Manassas, VA. <P> April 25, 1847 - Br. Van Vleck baptized in the home of the grandmother, the widowed Sister Mary Holland, maiden name Hamilton, in the Widow's house the two orphaned little daughters of the late widowed Sister Mary Ann Jarvis, maiden name Holland, of the Hope congregation whose deceased husband, James Jarvis, had inclined to the Baptists. Walter moved his family to American Falls, Power County, Idaho by 1912.
