His will names sons David, Daniel, Henry and Jacob; daughters Elizabeth and Caty; son John's daughter Rebecca; wife Catherine. Catherine appears as head of household in the 1820 and 1830 Rowan County censuses. In 1840 she is not listed, and was probably living with one of her children, most likely Jacob, as her will, written August 1841 and probated August 1842 (Davie Co. NC), states that she was feeble, and names Jacob and several grandchildren.
This name is spelled Helfer in the early records. Daniel's family, and perhaps others, changed the spelling to the English equivalent Helper. At least some of Jacob Jr.'s descendants continue to appear in 19th century records as Helfer.

Second Generation
Children of Jacob and Catherine Helfer, oldest children not necessarily in birth order
John Helfer (probably d. before 1808), wife's name unknown
Henry Helfer m Mary Bradley in 1804, Rowan Co.
