Your birth mother was nineteen years of age when you were born. She was of the Protestant faith and was described as 5'6" tall with long, blond hair, blue eyes and a pretty smile. She was a native of Washingtonian and completed the eleventh grade in school.

Both of her parents were of English-German descent. Her father was employed by the government and played the trombone in a band, and her mother was employed as a salesclerk in a dress shop. She had one older brother, who also played the trombone.

The birth mother's parents divorced when she was fourteen years of age, and they both remarried. Your birth mother felt that her mother was not happy in her second marriage, but felt that her father was happy in his marriage. Your birth mother lived with her mother until she became pregnant, and then entered the Florence Crittenten Maternity Home. Her father provided more emotional support following her pregnancy then did her mother.

The birth father was twenty-two years of age and of the Catholic faith. Both of his parents were of Irish descent. He was described as 5'11" tall, weighing 185 pounds with dark hair and blue eyes. He completed the eleventh grade, worked as a electrician and also played the drums. He was interested in amateur boxing. He was married at the time of your birth, but separated and seeking a divorce.

Your birth parents planned to marry when the birth father obtained a divorce and they were going to make a home for you. However, he did not obtain the divorce, and your birth mother planned to move to another state to stay with a married friend and make a home for you there. However, after she moved, she met a man who was in the military and married him. On April 23, 1948, she wrote her social worker a letter stating that she and her husband decided that you should be adopted "sine we have no way of giving her a good secure home." She explained that her husband was only a private in the army who did not make much money, and "we will have to make our home where we can. I don't think it will be good for her." She signed the Consent for Adoption on May 15, 1948.

After your birth mother made the decision to request adoption planning, the social worker contacted your birth father, and he was interviewed in the agency office on May 15, 1948. He was asked about his feelings about planning adoption for you, and he stated that he wanted to talk with your birth mother before making a decision. When he learned that your birth mother was no long living in Washington, and that she was married, he agreed that adoption would be in your best interest and signed the Consent document. He was described as friendly and cooperative with the social worker.

At birth, you weighed 5 pounds, 12 ounces and were 18 inches long, and the pregnancy was full term. Your had "very fair skin", reddish hair and blue eyes." You remained in the Florence Crittenten Maternity Home with your birth mother until February 29, 1948 when you were placed in the Washington Home for Foundlings. Your remained there until June 25, 1948, when you were placed with your adoptive parents.
