In 1776 his brother Samuel (1719-1799) and wife Margaretha (Heinler) (1727-1789) came from Lititz PA and purchased land in the Friedland area. The Moravian diaries record that Samuel nursed his brother Gottlieb in his terminal illness in 1778. Gottlieb's widow married <A HREF="bagge.html">Lorenz Bagge</A> the next year. Samuel's first wife died in 1789, and he married the widow Anna Gertraut (Balspach) Kilian (1734-1816).
