He came to Salem from Bethlehem in 1822, supposedly just to visit, but by 1824 he seems to have become a permanent resident of the community. He married <A HREF="reich.html">Johanna Catharina Reich</A> (1805-1833) in 1826, and then <A HREF="schultz1.html">Dorothea Matilda Schultz</A> (1815-1908), in 1839.<P> <HR> <H4>Second Generation</H4> Children of John David Clewell and Johanna Catharina Reich<BR> Maria E. "The single Br. Joh. David Clewell was married to the single Sr. Johanna Catharina Reich." Pg. 4066: Sept. 15.
