Elizabeth Cheshire's son, Richard Cheshire, was born August, 1730 in Maryland. Elizabeth, a spinster, placed Richard into indentured service and apprenticed him to Josias Hendon on April 6, 1734 in Baltimore County, Maryland. His term of indenturedship was until his twenty-first birthday or a period of 17 years. He moved with the Hendon family to Bladen County, North Carolina which is in the Cape Fear region.
