He died in 1831, Surry County, North Carolina. He was married three times, his first two wives are unknown. His third wife was Elizabeth Rapier. They were married in Surry County, 1788. (Christian Painter witnessed the marriage license purchase.) Frederick's name is among the Roster of Soldiers from North Carolina in the American Revolution and his pension file is located in the National Archives. Frederick Alberty was an Ensign in the regiment commanded by Colonel Polk of the NC Line, entering service in April of 1776. He served for 5 years and three months, participating in the battles of Germantown and Brandywine. <P> Elizabeth Rapier Alberty was born October 22, 1773, married Frederick Alberty on March 29, 1788 and died in Surry County, May 27, 1859. She is listed in the 1850 Surry County Federal Census, age 78, living alone, household # 1057.<P> Records of the Moravians in North Carolina, Vol. III 1776-1779, pg. 1392 -- Nov. 23, 1778 -- Mich. Houser enters Four Hundred Acres of Land in Surry County on both sides of Mills Creek, adjoining of Friedric Alberty, including the above Claim for Quantity. <P> Frederick Alberty's name appears on the Wilkes County, NC Tax List, Capt. Hardin's District, 100 acres, one poll.<P> Records of the Moravians in North Carolina, Vol. VI 1793-1808, pg. 2586 -- Sept. 19. 1797 -- A man by the name of Alberti, who has spent several weeks here, set out for New York, and plans to return to Europe next spring. Bray was Bondsman. <P> Lemuel B. Alberty was residing in Surry County, NC when he enlisted as a Private and mustered into "A" Co., NC 28th Infantry. He was 19 years of age. He was listed as POW in 1865, Richmond, VA; confined at Newport News, VA and where he took the OOA on June 30, 1865. In 1864 Lemuel Alberty married Lucinda White. The marriage was performed by D. M. Hosea Barnes (1859-?), s/o John Barnes<P> Obituary Henry Alburty, Neosho Times, 9 February 1888. - "On Saturday, February 4th a residence four miles east of Ritchey, of pneumonia fever Henry Alburty departed this life at the ripe age of 72 years, 6 mos, and 19 days. Thus is another old landmark removed-another good man called home to his fathers. Uncle Henry, as he was famillarly called, was born in Surry county, N.C., in 1815; moved to Indiana in 1837, and married the same year to Miss Nancy Douthit daughter of Abraham Douthit. In 1840 he moved his family to Washington County, Ark., and in 1849 to Southwest Missouri, and settled on the place where he died last Saturday. He was an exception for honesty, integrity, courage and purity of purpose which go to make a noble citizen. Once before the war he had his house and every article of clothing for the family of four consumed by fire, when he commenced anew the battle of life. When the war was over he had the satisfaction of knowing that he had his family left him, his house being pilfered by jayhawkers seventeen times, and twenty three horses stolen. With an old broken down army horse he commenced life anew. He has gone to rest, beloved by all for his christian and orderly walk in life. He was buried at the Humphrey cemetery on Monday evening surrounded by a large concourse of relatives and friends. The Times extends it heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family." Alburty, merchant, postmaster and hotel keeper at Ritchey, Mo., and one of the representative citizens of Van Buren Township, was born in America of Italian-German origin. Frederick Alburty (the name being spelled Allburthy in German, and Alberti in Italian), the great-grandfather of the subject of this sketch, and the founder of the American branch of the Alburty family was born in Italy, and immigrated to Poland, which became a German Province. He was a general in the German army, and in a duel with a German offcer [sic], killed his opponent, whereby he was compelled to flee to this country. He settled in North Carolina previous to the Revolutionary War, and was an officer in that struggle. After the war he carried on farming, and his son, Henry Alburty, also followed that pursuit, as did also his son Henry Alburty, the father of James F., the subject of this sketch. The father was born on the Yadkin River, North Carolina, July 15, 1815, was reared on the farm, and when a young man went to Indiana, where he married Miss Nancy Douthitt, daughter of Abraham Douthitt of Indiana. In 1840 Mr. Alburty moved to Washington County, Ark., where he remained two years and then came to Van Buren Township, Newton Co., Mo., settling on a farm which he had purchased of the government, and there passed the remainder of his days. . . .<P> -----------<P> Children of John S. Alburty - Miner and Mechanic, Friday, Nov. 6, 1959, pg 3 - Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Van Buren chapel, near Ritchey for William H. Alburty, widely known Newton county resident, who who died Sunday at Sale Memorial hospital. Burial was in the Van Buren cemetery. Born in Newton county near Ritchey, Mr. Alburty had lived in the county all his life. He was 88 years old. A retired farmer he was long active in Republican politics and served for several years as a township committee man. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. Survivors are his widow, Mrs Glenna Mae Alburty: a daughter, Mrs. Ina Foster of Sacramento, Calif: three sons, Virgil Alburty of Lawrence, Kan., Lloyd Alburty of Joplin, and Otis Alburty of Diamond: four sisters, Mrs Ella Breckerdite, Mrs. Carrie Broundlee and Mr. May Ferguson of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mrs. Maude Hawkins of Los Angeles, Calif,; seven grandchildren and 14 Great-grandchildren.<P> --------------<P> Children of Samuel R. Alberty - James F. Alberty who was born and reared in Van Buren township, this county, died Sept 25, 1903, at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Wash., aged 47 years. Death was due to a surgical operation performed for appendicitis. Mr. Alberty was a teacher in Van Buren township for many years. he went west about four years ago and lived at the town of Lind where he was teaching before his fatal sickness. He will be remembered by readers of the Times by the title of "Rustic" which he signed to many articles he wrote for this paper in the 90's. He made two or three trips west before he located there and wrote descriptions of his travels and the country. He was also a correspondent for this paper while he lived in Van Buren township. He was a member of the Masonic Odd Fellows and Modern Woodmen Fraternities. He was a man of more than ordinary intellect and education and a good citizen in every way.
