He started out spraying neurons as graffiti on blue-blooded walls in Boston and eventually evolved into a notable cyber-artist. (In case you forget your high school biology, neurons look like a cross between a leafless tree and a sperm cell.) Fisher, an artist with a meta-ecological bent, "incubated" his Bionic Codes at the MIT Media Lab; his codes combine abstracted synaptic forms and Holtzer- like memes with a Gibson cyberpunk sensibility, like Probe Your Niche, Circulate All Information and Equalize Fucking. "The Codes aren't symbiotic if the codes are nasty," says Fisher, "If they're seductive in some fashion, and if they make the host feel good, then they are ultimately of service to the host and benefit the human being. The host might benefit by improving or equalizing relationships rather than dominating them."</font> <p><font size=+1>Fisher attributes a gentle life to his Codes, hoping they live on, imprinted in the wetware of any and all viewers. He sees his codes distributed through media of all sorts, like a benign virus. Fisher has had his Bionic Codes projected at art galleries, clubs and raves, the light lending Ebon's little critters a sort of ephemeral physical presence that is outlived by the subtle perceptions created by his pleasantly futuristic and organic forms.</font> <p><font size=+1>The Codes currently exist in Fisher's palindromic AlulA Dimension (which is actually located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn). AlulA is an installation that might be called conceptual art, though Fisher loathes that label. "AlulA combines meme cultivation with live actors and performance," says Fisher, who loves working with film and people along with technology. Fisher conducts "various bizarre rituals" and "Alulian experiments" in the 11 foot cube-like structure. "It's an R-rated Dr. Seuss, really," laughs the artist.</font> <p><font size=+1>One fan has even decided to absorb his own custom-designed Code via a tattoo. At the very least, Fisher's soothing Bionic Codes would make for nifty patterns on your Windows or Mac desktop. "A friend told me that she saw someone wearing a t-shirt with a Bionic Code in southern India," says Fisher.
