<p class="text">Duvall Consulting Group’s (DCG) operational and financial review of university bookstores goes beyond reporting on the current state of a campus bookstore; DCG also examines bookstore benchmarks, and how your operation compares to other similar campus bookstores and to the college bookstore industry in general. And last, DCG reviews your overall potential in the bookstore business.<br /><br />
1. Upon a university bookstore’s acceptance of DCG’s evaluation proposal, the university completes a preliminary data request to provide the school’s financial and service objectives for the bookstore, general student body and bookstore personnel information, growth projections for the university, and competition. Students and faculty/staff complete an online customer survey. DCG also reviews three years of the bookstore’s operating statements.<br /><br />
2. Next, DCG conducts a 2-3-day on-site visit during which a detailed review of the bookstore operation is performed.The on-site review typically includes the following:</p>

<p class="text">3. Once the site visit has been completed, DCG analyzes the complete data. A report is generated indicating the appropriateness of services, and operations and financial results, including a 5-year financial pro forma.<br /><br />
Each report includes:</p>

<li>The findings, highlighting strengths and weaknesses of the current bookstore operation</li>
<li>Recommendations for improving the bookstore operation, for example strategies to improve:</li>
<ul>
<li>Financial returns</li>
<li>Service levels</li>
<li>Customer confidence</li>

<p class="text">With this comprehensive report, university administrators will understand first-hand how effectively their campus bookstore is being managed from operational, financial and personnel standpoints. From there, decisions can be made in terms of changes to be implemented and if overall management of the bookstore operation should remain in-house or be outsourced.<br /><br />
