<p class="text">Annually, school districts across the nation are forced to deal with funding cuts that negatively affect their overall budgets and operations. School district administrators must be creative in how they manage their budgets from one year to the next, but always with the expectation of having to do more with less. Increased class size, reductions in personnel, cutbacks in professional development, and delays in purchasing and implementing new technologies are just a few examples of the impact felt by students, teachers and administrators as a result of reduced funding.<br /><br />
There are two effective means available to help school districts offset some of those funding cuts. Comprehensive textbook inventory and management control, and proper food service management can result in additional monies appearing in your school district�s budget�funds that can be directed to other much-needed classes, personnel or school activities. K-12 school district administrators should be performing operational and financial reviews of their district�s textbook assets each year, with the intent to improve operations and control costs. Similar reviews should be performed to evaluate their food service operation. Most districts, however, have never done such reviews and, as a result, have limited information on the status of these important and valuable assets. In fact, most school district administrators are not aware that their textbook inventory is generally the district�s second largest asset (after their buildings).<br /><br />
