The paintings incorporate collaged elements, the ephemera of everyday life, and not just my life. Many of the papers are found by chance, and many are collected for me by others. The collage elements expand and enrich my means of expression beyond the limitations of paint. Each collage element resonates with its own past, and sets off a chain of responses in me, some formal, intellectual and carefully planned, others intuitive, even brashly impulsive. The subtlest adjustment to the composition or color can cause everything to shift and fall into a totally new position and meaning.
